In my book Health, Wealth & Hypnosis – The Way to a Beautiful Life, I dedicated and entire chapter on Magnetism. In this article I have put it in a nutshell.
A magnet attracts things made of iron and steel. It doesn’t matter if the object is useful or useless, it will still be attracted to the magnet.
I believe that the human mind acts in a similar way. Your mind attracts into your life positive and negative people, situations and events, according to the predominant thoughts you think, some people call this “The Law of Attraction”. I think of it as magnetism.
Now some of you may scoff, others will be curious, still more will give the LOA thing a go…for a while, and if their dreams and goals are not achieved in double-quick time, give up and go back to how things were. That might be a good thing in some cases, on the other hand you may have just kicked a world of opportunity to the kerb, passing it off as nonsense or pseudoscience.
It’s healthy to be curious. Possessing a healthy curiosity is really just a desire for learning, for evolving, growing, and seeking out new information. Speaking of evolution, it makes perfect sense for humans to be curious. Without curiosity we might still be living in caves. And I doubt very much curiosity ever killed a cat, or human for that matter, unless of course their curiosity happened to lead them down dark or dangerous paths. But we’re not talking about danger here, we’re talking about the power of the human mind.
All humans, and objects for that matter, emit a frequency, a vibration. An oscillating, vibrating bunch of atoms and particles conducted by energy. That’s hard science, not the pseudo kind.
We transmit that frequency just like a radio. When we set the radio to a certain station (point of focus) we attract to us things that resonate with that frequency. We usually find and stay on a radio station that interests us, makes us feel good, that resonates with how we feel, or want to feel. If you’re into classical music and land on a heavy metal station it’s not likely to induce pleasant feelings (vibes, vibrations) and you’ll look to change the station, and quick.
So why don’t we do that with our thoughts?
Henry David Thoreau, the famous naturalist and philosopher once said: “I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.”
The idea, or concept of the Law of Attraction is actually an ancient theory embedded in universal laws. It suggests that our lives are our own creation and that all humans possess the innate ability to influence and create our life events.
Some of you will have already experienced the manifestation of things that may once have been a pipe-dream, but because of your unwavering intention, it became a reality, I know I have…many times.
As Tony Robbins aptly puts it: “Where focus goes, energy flows.”
Thoughts of doom, failure, weakness, fear and inferiority create and emit a like-for-like vibration, the same goes for thoughts of happiness, love, self-belief, confidence and success.
In order to use the law of magnetism effectively, you need to practice clearing your mind. Find 10, 15 or 20 minutes every day to sit quietly. Sit with your thoughts (and don’t be afraid of them!) Write them down if you like. Mediate. Practice mindfulness or self-hypnosis. Seek the help of a professional hypnotherapist. Sitting with your thoughts will help you to focus on your frequency and if it need be, help you tune in to a better station!
If you find that you continually attract the wrong people, situations or events, then change your thoughts, your station, the pattern, your vibration. Free yourself from self-doubt, have faith in your abilities, and a strong desire to achieve your dreams and your goals. Allow your natural ability to come to the surface and attract to you the things that you really want in life.
